The African American Music Institute Boys’ Choir (AAMI) of Pittsburgh, PA will be in concert at Sunrise Baptist Church on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Pamela J. Johnson, founded the Afro American Music Institute Boys’ Choir in 1990. Under the direction of Dr. James T. Johnson, Jr. and his assistant, Howard Alexander, III, the ensemble has grown into a choir renowned for its musical styles and its interpretations of African American music such as black art music, blues, gospel, pop, spiritual and jazz. This group has performed throughout the region and toured to places outside of the region including Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, Six Flags in Gurnee, Illinois, and STAX Records 50th Anniversary celebration at the Cannon Theatre in front of an audience of 3000. They have also performed at The Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, House of Blues in Cleveland, OH and have also traveled internationally twice to perform at Saint Mark’s Angelica (Episcopal) Church in Niagara-On-the- Lake, Canada. In June of 2011, the Choir won first place at the National Boy Choir Convention in Louisville, KY. In 2013, the Boys Choir performed at the Embassies of Ghana, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Ireland.
